Dr Laura Wehmeyer
Laura Wehmeyer graduated with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Psychology from Maastricht University in the Netherlands in 2018. After gaining experience as a Coaching Psychologist and later as a research assistant at the Department of Psychiatry at the University Hospital in Cologne, Laura pursued her Ph.D. in Health Sciences at the University Hospital Cologne's Stereotactic Department in 2021. Her doctoral research focused on Deep Brain Stimulation for Tourette syndrome patients, employing high-density EEG and Local field potential recordings to investigate cognitive processes and neural mechanisms underlying the Tourette symptomatology. Laura's work aimed to inform optimized DBS treatment methods and also involved close collaboration with psychiatric DBS patients for (neuro-)psychological testing, which is essential to achieve the former.
In March 2024, Laura joined Prof. Tan’s group as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Neuroscience. Her current research involves analysing human brain electrophysiological signals to gain a deeper understanding of electrophysiological feedback markers for refining and optimizing DBS treatment for Parkinson's disease. Leveraging her background in psychology, Laura aims to translate this knowledge to advance stimulation-based treatments for psychiatric diseases in the future.
