Dr Valentina Mancini

Valentina studied Medicine at the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' in Italy before completing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the Lemanic Neuroscience Doctoral School in Switzerland. Her doctoral work focused on the developmental trajectories of individuals at genetic risk for psychotic disorders to identify critical time-windows for early intervention. To this aim, she employed different neuroimaging techniques such as high-density EEG, structural and functional MRI and MRS.

She was then awarded a fellowship by the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG) to undertake clinical training in Psychiatry while conducting a brain stimulation project to enhance working memory in youths at risk for psychosis.

In 2023, Valentina joined the Unit and the Stagg Group, where she had previously spent 6 months at the end of her Ph.D as a visiting student. Within the Unit, she will work on a collaborative closed-loop stimulation project aimed at reducing the severity of tremor in clinical populations. In parallel, she will continue to investigate oscillatory markers of psychosis and targeted interventions in collaboration with the Barron Group and the Department of Psychiatry.
