Oliver completed his medical studies at the University of Tartu, Estonia, and subsequently obtained a D.Phil. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford, supervised by Professor Andrew Sharott and Mark Walton. In 2015-16, Oliver joined Professor Mark Walton's and Professor Masud Husain's labs to study the effects of serotonin and dopamine neurotransmission on goal-oriented behaviour. During his D.Phil. research, Oliver employed a bespoke cost-benefit decision-making task and single-unit electrophysiology recordings to study the activity dynamics of the frontal cortex and the interconnected basal ganglia during motivated behaviour. Since finishing his D.Phil. in October 2022, he has subsequently continued this project in Professor Andrew Sharott's lab. He is currently working in 20% academic capacity for the MRC BNDU and 80% clinical capacity at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Oliver additionally teaches pre-clinical and clinical medicine at Somerville College.
