Research Assistant (Dupret Group)
We are seeking a Research Assistant to provide specialist technical support and conduct original collaborative research as part of a multidisciplinary scientific programme designed to elucidate how coordination of neural activity in the hippocampus circuit supports memory-guided behaviour in rodents.
In addition to having an H.N.C, B.Sc. or equivalent qualification/training in a relevant area of biological research, candidates should have a track record in laboratory technician work and/or research experience in the field of neuroscience. The post holder will be required to contribute to research by assisting with behavioural in vivo neurophysiology experiments in rodents, as well as by assisting in the daily organisation and running of the host laboratories. Candidates are expected to be team players, able to work flexible hours when required, as part of a group and independently, and to have excellent communication skills. A well-developed ability to manage time and multitask is also essential. Due to the nature of the related rodent experiments, the post holder will be required to work flexibly to meet the demands of the job.
The post holder will work in the Group led by Dr David Dupret and will be based at the MRC Unit’s main site in Mansfield Road, Oxford.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post with an end date of 31st March 2024 in the first instance, externally funded by the Medical Research Council, to start on 1st September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post holder will be contractually required to undertake business critical work outside of core working days for the equivalent of up to 2 days per month, for which overtime will be paid at the appropriate rate.
This post is a University Grade 6 (06S) position with a starting salary of between £29,176 and £34,804 per annum (commensurate with experience). Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment with the University will be subject to a satisfactory security screening.
Informal enquiries can be addressed to Dr David Dupret.
Applications must be made via the University of Oxford’s online recruitment system, using Vacancy ID 146420.
The closing date for applications for this post is 12 noon UK time on Wednesday 1st July 2020.
Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
