Jessica Myatt

Research Student

Jessica graduated with a B.Sc. (hons) in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester in July 2019. As part of her degree programme, Jessica undertook an industrial research placement within the Neuroimmunology and Remyelination Laboratory at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health in Melbourne, Australia. Her research project investigated the regulation of neural precursor cells via TAM receptor signalling. Back at the University of Manchester, Jessica’s final-year research project focused on the identification of colour opponent cells in the intergeniculate leaflet and ventral lateral geniculate nucleus of the brain, utilising optogenetics and in vivo multi-electrode recordings. Jessica joined the MRC Unit in 2019 as a Research Technician, providing specialised technical support for the research activities of the Sharott Group. She returned to the Unit shortly afterwards to pursue a D.Phil in the Sharott and Stagg groups with the aim of identifying oscillatory signatures of motor learning in the motor cortex using a combination of electrophysiology, optogenetics and imaging.
