Postdoctoral Neuroscientist (Magill Group)
The MRC BNDU is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Neuroscientist to work as part of an exciting research collaboration at the interface between academia and industry that has been established to advance the development of treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.
This Postdoctoral Neuroscientist will develop, execute, analyse and report on a combination of anatomical, pharmacological and behavioural investigations in mouse models of Parkinson’s disease. This will include experiments to evaluate the efficacy and mechanisms of action of preclinical interventions.
In addition to having (or expecting to soon receive*) a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, candidates should have a promising track record of original research in their particular field of neuroscience. Candidates are also expected to have laboratory experience in quantitative anatomical methods and related imaging techniques, including use of fluorescence microscopy, as applied to the scientific investigation of the nervous system. Experience of working with wildtype and genetically-altered mice, and of phenotyping rodent models of neurodegenerative disease, is desirable.
The post holder will be part of the Magill Group based at the MRC BNDU. The Group has a strong track record in studying the functional organization of the basal ganglia and partner neuronal networks in rodents, including in models of Parkinson’s disease. The Group uses multidisciplinary approaches to elucidate the function and dysfunction of these brain circuits, employing innovative techniques to monitor and manipulate neurons and to determine their influence on behaviour. The proposed research will take full advantage of the intellectual environment, capital equipment, technical expertise and excellent infrastructure in place at the MRC BNDU. There will be ample opportunities for the post holder to develop skills on the job and to work in partnership with other scientists in the Oxford/Bristol Myers Squibb collaboration as well as with other Unit Groups.
This is a full-time fixed-term post with an end date of 7th June 2023 in the first instance, with an initial probationary period, to start as soon as possible. This post is a University Grade 7 (07S) position with a starting salary of between £32,817 and £38,017 per annum*. Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment with the University will be subject to a satisfactory security screening.
*If a PhD, MD or equivalent qualification is not held by the time of starting the post, but is submitted for examination/nearing completion, the appointment will be to Grade 6 (starting salary of between £32,817 and £34,804 per annum), until the qualification is awarded.
