Francesco Innocenti
Francesco Innocenti earned a BSc in Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience from Goldsmiths, University of London (2021), with a thesis modelling perception using evolutionary algorithms. He then went on to do a PhD in Machine Learning and Theoretical Neuroscience at the University of Sussex (2025), focusing on understanding deep neural networks trained with predictive coding as an alternative to standard backpropagation.
In November 2025, Francesco joined the Bogacz group as a Postdoctoral Researcher, working on more biologically plausible models of learning in the brain as part of an interdisciplinary team involving both theorists and experimentalists. His research focuses on the optimisation dynamics and scaling behaviour of neural networks, both artificial and biological, bridging insights from computational neuroscience and machine learning.
