Dr Jessica Myatt

Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Jessica graduated with a first-class B.Sc (Hons) degree in Neuroscience with Industrial Experience in July 2019 from the University of Manchester. During her research placement year in the Neuroimmunology and Remyelination Laboratory at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (Melbourne, Australia), Jessica investigated the regulation of neural precursor cells via TAM receptor signalling. Jessica’s final year research project in Manchester focused on the identification of colour opponent cells in the intergeniculate leaflet and ventral lateral geniculate nucleus, utilising optogenetics and in vivo multi-electrode recordings.

Jessica first joined the unit in 2019 as a Research Technician in the Sharott group providing specialist support. Jessica then completed her DPhil from 2020-2024 co-supervised by Prof. Charlotte Stagg & Prof. Andrew Sharott, funded by the MRC Doctoral Training Partnership. Jessica’s research focused on enhancing motor cortical theta and gamma oscillations using closed-loop phase-dependent stimulation. To achieve this, Jessica utilised stereotaxic surgical techniques, in vivo electrophysiology and optogenetics. In addition to this, Jessica acquired competitive funding (UKRI-Mitacs grant) during her DPhil, to conduct a research project at McGill University (Montreal) utilising neuroimaging and behavioural techniques in mice.

In July 2025 Jessica rejoined the Sharott group as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to assist with signal processing and analysis of multichannel neuronal data with the aim of defining neuronal dynamic responses to closed-loop optogenetic stimulation in cortical circuits.
