Dr Mathilde Guillaumin
Mathilde graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris, France) with an engineering degree and MSc in 2014. During her MSc research project, she explored obesity-driven re-arrangements in hypothalamic neural circuits, for which she received the L.E. Rivot prize from the Academy of Sciences (France). She then completed a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, under the supervision of Prof. Vlad Vyazovskiy and Prof. Stuart Peirson, funded by a Clarendon Scholarship and the BBSRC. During her PhD, Mathilde used in vivo electrophysiology and mathematical modelling to investigate the role in sleep of a gene affecting neurotransmitter release.
In 2019, Mathilde joined as a postdoctoral researcher the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), working with Prof. Alban de Kerchove, and in 2020 joined the ETH Zürich (Switzerland) to work with Prof. Denis Burdakov and Dr Daria Peleg-Raibstein. During her time in Brussels and Zurich, Mathilde investigated neural circuits involved in feeding behaviour and addiction, using optogenetics and photometry coupled with behavioural testing.
In 2023, Mathilde joined Dr Helen Barron’s group, to work on a project that is using a cross-species approach to elucidate the role of hippocampal-neocortical circuits in memory. She will use electrophysiology, calcium imaging and behaviour to understand the roles of specific subpopulations of neurons in cortex in memory formation, and their potential role in different psychiatric disorders.
