Dr. Diogo Coutinho Soriano

Postdoctoral Neuroscientist

Dr. Diogo C. Soriano has a BSc in Electrical Engineering (2004) from State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, an MSc in Biomedical Engineering (2007 – UNICAMP) and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (2011 – UNICAMP). During his PhD, Diogo worked on nonlinear dynamics and signal processing with an emphasis on biomedical data. Diogo is an Associate Professor of biomedical engineering at the Federal University of ABC (Sao Paulo – Brazil) since 2012. His research interests include developing solutions for medical diagnosis, therapy and assistive devices through an integrative approach of nonlinear dynamics, classical signal processing and computational modelling. He has been applying these techniques to investigate motor impairment to design more robust EEG-based brain-computer interfaces and deep-brain stimulation strategies.

In July 2022, Diogo joined the Cagnan Group to investigate tremor dynamics in a large cohort of Parkinson’s disease patients using 24h monitoring with wearable sensors. This research aims to better understand how tremor evolves in Parkinson disease across multiple time scales and how it correlates with different motor and cognitive symptoms.
