Dr. Arthur Buijink

Visiting Scholar

Arthur is currently a Neurology registrar, with a specific interest in movement disorders, at the Amsterdam University Medical Centres. He obtained his M.D. cum laude and subsequently his Ph.D. at the University of Amsterdam. His previous research focussed on functional and structural imaging methods, in combination with concurrently recorded electromyography, to unravel pathophysiological mechanisms in patients with essential tremor. His main research interests lie in the modulation of cerebral mechanisms underlying neurological movement disorders.

During Arthur’s time in the Unit, he will focus on local field potential analyses in the time and frequency domain, using recordings from fully-implantable and sensing-enabled neurostimulators in patients with Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia. Extracting useful biomarkers from these signals, and relating them to clinical characteristics, will hopefully aid in the development of adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation strategies.
